Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed claims of a disagreement between him and members of the national and state assemblies, describing the reports as “pure lies.”
Speaking on Wednesday at the commissioning of the extended and dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku Road, Fubara addressed rumours of strained relations, a day after announcing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, Channels TV reported.
In a video shared by Arise TV, the governor refuted suggestions that he had ignored lawmakers or refused to address their concerns. He insisted he had made “every effort” to meet with them, explaining that the responsibility for convening such a meeting rested with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as well as other party leaders.
“I personally do not have any disagreements or any anger with my members of the National Assembly or the state assembly,” Fubara said, adding that the planned meeting “wasn’t for me to call… It was for my leader, the minister, to arrange, which up to this hour has not been fixed.”
He described as false the claims that he had rejected proposals or avoided legislators.
