The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TAF Africa, Jake Epelle, has described suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as an “emerging rockstar” in Nigerian politics with genuine grassroots appeal.
Speaking during a televised interview, Epelle said the embattled governor once enjoyed overwhelming support from Rivers people and could have defeated Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, in a free and fair election.
“If you put Fubara—maybe yesterday—and put Wike in a free and fair election, Fubara will flog Wike,” Epelle said.
However, he noted that the governor’s popularity has started to decline due to certain political missteps and controversial statements, including his remark that “my spirit has left Government House.”
Epelle warned that such comments are alienating Fubara’s support base and could hurt his standing in the state’s political landscape.
