Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has challenged the Rivers State University (RSU) to maintain and expand efforts toward producing world-class graduates capable of advancing development in Rivers State and across Nigeria.
Speaking at the institution’s recent convocation ceremony in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthened and sustained funding for RSU. He said the 2026 funding plan prioritises addressing infrastructural deficits, improving campus security, and boosting welfare for staff and students.
He noted that government will urgently tackle operational challenges affecting satellite campuses outside Port Harcourt to restore seamless academic activities.
“We will continue to fulfil our funding commitments to the university, including providing sufficient infrastructure and supporting the well-being of staff and students. Education is the most crucial investment for a nation’s economic success,” he said.
The governor praised the university for staying true to its founding vision and called for deeper investment in research and innovation to help solve the state’s pressing socio-economic challenges.
He reaffirmed that his administration remains committed to long-term educational reforms, stressing that addressing systemic gaps requires strategic planning rather than occasional interventions.
