Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the payment of eight months’ salary arrears owed to newly recruited health workers under the Rivers State Hospitals Management Board.
The approval comes two months after the workers lamented the non-payment of their wages. The affected staff are among the 1,000 health personnel deployed across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Justina Jumbo, announced the development during the official launch of the Electronic Medical Records System in four pilot hospitals at Kelson Harrison Hospital, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Jumbo, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, said the arrears would be paid alongside the October salaries.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Bright Ogbonda, described the introduction of the Electronic Medical Records System as a significant stride toward improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery in the state.
