MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God. (2Chro.7:5)
READ: LEV. 2:6-8
6 Thou shalt part it in pieces, and pour oil thereon: it is a meat offering. 7 And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in the fryingpan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil. 8 And thou shalt bring the meat offering that is made of these things unto the LORD: and when it is presented unto the priest, he shall bring it unto the altar.
In many passages of the Bible, we see that whenever a spiritual project was completed it was officially dedicated to God. The tabernacle of the congregation was dedicated in the wilderness (Exod.40:1-2, 9,16-17). All the vessels of the sanctuary were also dedicated. (Exod.40:9,18-30). The priests were dedicated or consecrated to the LORD before they resumed their priestly duties. In all these dedication ceremonies we see that there were stipulated offerings to the LORD as a thanksgiving for dedication. The law stipulated certain offerings to be offered to the LORD when new born babies where dedicated to Him (Lev.12:1-8). In our focal scripture for today, King Solomon offered unto the LORD an unusual sacrifice of two thousand oxen and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep, to demonstrate his gratitude to the LORD, for the grace to build and finish the temple.
The Church must learn to show gratitude to the LORD, for all His great kindness towards her. Some people take the dedication of their children and other blessings for granted. Dedication offering is a demonstration of gratitude to God from whom all blessings flow. Solomon was not instructed by David his father or any of the priests on the specific materials to be used in appreciating God for this great occasion. His instincts directed him because he was overwhelmed by what the LORD had done for him. When men begin to question the rationale behind offerings, tithes, and other forms of giving to the LORD, I suspect the spirit of stinginess and ingratitude at work. God’s goodness and mercies are incalculable. Nothing we offer is enough to pay Him back; but our giving is a demonstration of our love, and acknowledgement of His part in our success.
TURNING POINT: When men begin to question the rationale behind offerings, tithes, and other forms of giving to the LORD, I suspect the spirit of stinginess and ingratitude at work.
PRAYER POINT: LORD, all that You have given to me, I give back to you.
