MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “And the servant abideth not in the house forever but the son abideth ever” (John 8:35).
READ: ROM.8:14-19
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
No matter how useful, influential or intelligent a servant becomes, he cannot take the place of a son. Eliazer of Damascus was a wonderful servant in the house of Abraham. Other servants were under his care and control but Abraham still longed for a son. In this scripture, Jesus reveals to us one of the great privileges of Sonship which is permanent. The position cannot be changed or given to another; our redemption in Christ brought us to the wonderful position of Sonship. We are heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. Every adult (mature) son shares the position and authority of their father.
This is why Jesus appeared to His disciples after the resurrection and gave them power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the powers of the enemy. As sons of God, we are partakers of the divine nature, we have the life of God in us. No matter how efficient and chosen a servant becomes, with his DNA, he can’t be regarded as a son. As sons, we are one with the Father. We have received the power of endless life. Remember, not all children qualify to enjoy it, because they are either ignorant of it. We are children of God, but are expected to grow into Sonship to enjoy our inheritance in Christ.
TURNING POINT: We are children of God, but are expected to grow into Sonship to enjoy our inheritance in Christ.
PRAYER POINT: Dear Lord, take me to higher grounds that I may enjoy all my inheritance as a son.
