MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work where unto I have called them.”(Acts.13:2)
READ: ACT 13:1-3
Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. 3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
A day or season of fasting, affords you a season of total consecration and concentration in the things of God. Since you are not thinking of what to eat or when to eat it, you have more time and energy to devote to worship, praise, and prayer. This was the case in our meditation scripture. While the Apostles fasted and prayed, the Holy Spirit came down and released a divine instruction that was to change the entire course of the propagation of the gospel.
A fasting mood, subdues the flesh, quickens the spirit and makes you more sensitive to the voice and revelations of the Holy Spirit. Drawing inspiration from the story of prophetess Anna, the scripture recorded that she never departed from the house of Lord, she continued in fasting and prayer. She was able to hear the voice of God speaking clearly to her, the day that Baby Jesus was dedicated. She saw and recognized Him as the Son of God (Lk.36:38).
Just as physical food satisfies and re-energizes the body, so does fasting nourish the soul, energizes the spirit to perform spiritual functions, subduing the flesh and its desires. Living a feasting life, is the surest way to attain spiritual height that enables continuous fruitfulness and the production of fruit of the Holy Spirit. Whenever you want to increase your spiritual power base, turn to God with humility of heart in a period of fasting.
TURNING POINT: Living a fasting life, is the surest way to attain spiritual height that enables continuous fruitfulness and the production of fruit of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER POINT: Lord draw me closer to You, and help me to live a feasting life.
