MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Rom.8:14)
READ: ROM.8:12-17
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Yesterday we saw from the scriptures that walking in the Spirit means walking with God. To understand this clearly, let’s look at the life of our sweet Savior. After His humble baptism, He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil (Matt.4:1). After the temptation, he began his public ministry but remained in constant fellowship with the Father. He said to the Jews, “I tell you the truth, the son can do nothing of Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father is doing, because whatever the Father does the son also does” (Jn.15:19).
Between God the father and God the son there was a synergy, a rapport, constant agreement and unity of purpose. Again Jesus said “I am in the Father and the Father in Me and you are in Me” (Jn.14:20).
This understanding of the truth is what leads to a Spirit controlled lifestyle. The moment you become born again, the indwelling Spirit of God takes over you not as a dormant or passive influence but as a controller general of your entire life. Unfortunately, many believers do not enjoy this realm because they relate with the Holy Spirit as an emergency helper. They do their own things, say what they wish, and react to issues at their own impulse, then when they get into trouble, they remember God and His promises. Truth is, we did not choose Him, He chose us, and we do not relate with Him on our own terms, He must lead while we follow. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Invariably, this means that those who are not led (controlled) by the Spirit of God are not the children of God. Approve your sonship by walking in the Spirit.
TURNING POINT: The moment you become born again, the indwelling Spirit of God takes over you not as a dormant or passive influence but as a controller general of your entire life.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to walk with You always that I may enjoy the blessing.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: PS. 119:49-104; 1COR.4
