MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Then Isaac sowed in that land and received in the same year an hundredfold and the Lord blessed him” (Gen 26:12)
READ: GEN.26:6-12
6 And Isaac dwelt in Gerar: 7 And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon. 8 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife. 9 And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife; and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her. 10 And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us. 11 And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death. 12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
Isaac did not only obey the Lord by remaining in the land, the scriptures recorded that Isaac sowed in that land in the same year. Sowing in the midst of a draught requires absolute confidence and faith in the God that can never fail. The season of draughts is the season of dryness, uncertainty and hopelessness. Draught kills both humans and animals and plants because of lack of water. In the midst of this terrible dryness, Isaac had the courage to sow because, God had spoken to him. It is one thing to hear the voice of God and another thing to obey Him.
Any seed sown by faith in God’s promise is bound to produce a bountiful harvest because God will water it in His goodness. Sometimes, I begin to wonder what the Philistines and even some of Isaac’s servant would have said when they saw him trying to break to the ground, putting in those tiny dry seeds. Some may even conclude that his frustration has led him into insanity. Yes, yes, don’t expect people who were not there when God spoke to understand your faith moves. Saul could not take it in when David told him, “thy servant will fight with the philistines”. He saw it as a suicide mission but David was walking with divine conviction. Once you are convinced of God’s leading and support, go ahead and do the needful. Your today’s critics will become your fan tomorrow when the harvest begin to pour in. It takes unusual stakes to provoke unusual harvest.
TURNING POINT: Any seed sown by faith in God’s promise is bound to produce a bountiful harvest because God will water it in His goodness.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to work with you in total obedience even when my friends don’t understand.
