Fresh Manna 22 September
MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “When thou passeth through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Isa. (43:2)
READ: ISAIAH 43:1-3
But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
The reason why so many Christians dwindle, in their faith, in the time of crises, is fear of the unknown. During the early days of revival in Nigeria, most families and communities dwelt in darkness, being controlled by evil traditions. Repentance and confession of faith were very difficult steps to take then. Some ventured into it; but the moment they were persecuted and threatened, they gave in. But there were also those, who stood their ground, challenging the powers of idolatry and evil traditions. Some of them were ostracized from the community. Some were cursed with grievous curses, in the names of the gods of the land; but they stood their ground and their faith conquered.
Jesus Christ, the Commander-in-Chief of the Heavenly armies, does not command from the rear. He goes before His people to decimate all oppositions. Moses said to Israel as they prepared to match into the Promised Land, “but be assured today that the LORD your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you…” (Deut.9:3).
Note: God never promised that you will not go through the waters or through the fire: but He promises to be with you and deliver you. What this means is that you should not be afraid, when the storms and the waters of life rise against you. The enemy may increase the intensity of the heat of his fire seven times over; that does not mean that you will be consumed. The God of Shedrack, Meshack and Abednego is your God. He is in the midst of that fire, so you cannot be burnt.

PRAYER POINT: LORD, help me to always remember that You are the consuming fire.
