MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “I call heaven and earth to record these against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing therefore choose life that thou and thy seed may live”. (Deat.30:19)
READ: GEN.26:1-5
And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. 2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; 4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
Sometimes divine instructions look unappealing and irrational. The story of our text proves this. Isaac was in the land of the Philistines in the midst of a draught. Egypt had better pasture because of the river Nile aiding irrigation farming. Naturally, Isaac saw Egypt as an option because, that was how his father survived in his own time. Before he could make a move, the Lord spoke to him, discouraging him from going back to Egypt. Are there things you thought or saw as your best options yet God has disapproved of them? Just obey Him, because, it will end in praise for you. Reading through this chapter you will discover that Isaac’s obedience, paid off.
The scriptures recorded that he sowed in the midst of draught and reaped a hundred fold. In fact, he prospered to the point that the Philistines envied him (Gen. 26:12). We are not called to understand God but to obey Him. He may not give you all the details; just obey because He has the master plan in His hands. Sometimes, children of God, place some conditions before total obedience. A brother once said to me, well I have paid part of the vow; if God fulfills His part of the bargain, then I will complete the rest. What a foolish way to relate with God. Our Father is faithful and true. His nature of absolute goodness will never allow Him to push you into the tight corner of regrets. Whatever he tells you to do, is for your good; just obey. Your willingness to obey Him even when your five senses cannot explain it, is your ticket to unlimited blessings.
TURNING POINT: His nature of absolute goodness will never allow Him to push you into the tight corner of regrets.
PRAYER POINT: Father, baptize me with the spirit of obedience.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: PS.22,23,24; ACTS.20:1-16
