MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “And Jonathan, Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.” (1sam.23:16).
READ: 1 SAM. 23:14-18
14 And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand. 15 And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood. 16 And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God. 17 And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth. 18 And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.
The depth of friendship is measured by the moment of joy, excitement and self-sacrifice you were willing to make for the happiness and fulfillment of the person you call your friend. True friends stick to you even if there is no immediate gain but mutual assistance. This was what we saw in the relationship of David and Jonathan. Humanly speaking Jonathan was made already. As the crown prince of the nation of Israel he was loved and honoured by all. Bible history also shows that he was a man of valour. God has previously given Israel victory over the Philistines through him (1sam.14:45).
But the moment he came into contact with David and understood the mandate he carried, he bowed to God’s will and initiated friendship. Any man that envies you and does not accept the possibility of you rising above him is not a true friend no matter how close he is to you and how long such relationship has lasted. A true friend is ready to carry you when your legs are too weak to carry you. True friend is a pillar of support in the days of spiritual low percent and emotional instability. The true worth of a genuine friend is not measured just by material gift and assistant offered but by availability and closeness flowing from a heart of love and empathy. If you need genuine friend around you, please become a true friend to someone.
TURNING POINT: A true friend is ready to carry you when your legs are too weak to carry you. True friend is a pillar of support in the days of spiritual low percent and emotional instability.
PRAYER POINT: Father, furnish my life with true friends who are willing to go extra mile for my joy. I pray you make me genuine for someone.
