MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “And Ehud put his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly.” (Judg.3:21).
READ: JUDGES 3:12-15
16 But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh.
17 And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man.
18 And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present.
19 But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.
20 And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat.
21 And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:
22 And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.
23 Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them.
The captivity of Israel to Moab lasted for a period of eighteen years. During this period, they remembered the Lord and cried unto Him for mercy. Ungodly men only realize their helplessness and their need of God when they are between the devil and the deep sea. Sometimes such a emergency search for God may not be fruitful if the individual has exhausted his opportunities for mercy and divine intervention.
In the case of Israel, in this passage, God heard and sent a deliverer named Ehud. Ehud was a brave man from the tribe of Benjamin. He led Israel in bringing tribute to Eglon King of Moab. The description of Eglon in this scripture shows how fat he had fed himself with resources of God’s people. Disobedience gives you good years of labour but very poor harvest.
Well, the whole of Israel didn’t have to go into the battle because they were afraid and weak. Ehud sharpened his dagger and went all alone into the enemy’s chamber. He smote the King even without his servant knowing that their master was dead.
It is one thing to be anointed by God as a deliverer, and another thing to work in wisdom and prudence so that the assignment can be fulfilled. Israel may not have what it takes at this time to fight Moab in a head on attack, but the wisdom of their deliver made the mission possible.
You may be the deliverer that your family has been waiting for to bring them out of bondage, rise up to the occasion and fulfill your calling.
TURNING POINT: Disobedience gives you good years of labour but very poor harvest.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, forgive me in any area of my life that I might have walked in disobedience. Help me to obey You henceforth.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2KNG.15,16,17; JN.6:1-21
