MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the status of David his father; only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places” (1Kgs.3:3)
READ: 1 KINGS.3: 3-4
3 And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places. 4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
When you look through the Word of God and see the greatness of Solomon and the blessings that followed him, you may be tempted to think that he was only riding on the wing of his father’s grace, but that is not true. Solomon had a personal relationship with God; he loved the Lord and served Him passionately. A lot of people pray for favour, lifting, anointing etc. These things are not just discharged accidentally from heaven’s throne room, rather certain dispositions, attitude, diligence, commitment to divine purpose attract them. The story of Joseph in Egypt validates this truth. Though he was maliciously sold into slavery by people he knew as his own family. He still remained faithful to his convictions. In faraway Egypt, he refused to take the easy way out to freedom when Potifer’s wife offered herself to him on a platter of gold. He chose to remain a slave or even a prisoner than enjoying sinful pleasures (Gen.39:12,20).
I have heard people pray, reminding God of His ability to lift a man from prison to a palace. Only the likes of Joseph (men of integrity and total devotion to God) receive such honour. As we continue in this interesting book of the bible you will see how King Solomon demonstrated his love and devotion to the Lord. His prayers, his offerings and his attitude when he was given an open check by the Lord, demonstrated his Spiritual depth. More than everything else; seek a personal relationship with the Lord; that is the beginning of favour.
TURNING POINT: More than everything else; seek a personal relationship with the Lord; that is the beginning of favor.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, draw me close to where You are.
