MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the Lord until those days. (1`Kgs.3:2)
READ: 1 KINGS.3:1-2
And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. 2 Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
The moment Solomon concluded his assignment of quenching all forms of opposition and cleansing the kingdom of traitors whose presence may be harmful to his establishment and peaceful reign, he moved forward to secure his boundaries. This thought and move itself was not wrong, but the method employed was against the covenant. Look at this scripture;
“Neither shall thou make marriages with them, thy daughter thou shall not give unto their son nor his daughter shall thou take unto thy son (Deut.7:3).
Contrary to this and many other scriptures, “Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt and too Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into the city of David”. (1Kgs.3:1)
Initially, this action may have looked very innocent and somehow prestigious. Given that Egypt was a world power as at then and Solomon was an upcoming King.
The only wise God does not make mistakes in His operations and demands. The evil consequences of Solomon’s action were concealed until the time of his old.
“But king Solomon loved so many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh…and it came to pass when Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after their gods, and his heart was not perfect towards the Lord (1kgs.11:1,4).
God is proactive in His demands and commands; that you don’t seem to see any danger now does not mean that it is safe.
TURNING POINT: God is proactive in His demands and commands; that you don’t seem to see any danger now does not mean that it is safe.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to abide by the rules so I don’t hurt myself in the long run.
