MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. (1Cor.4:1)
READ: LUKE 12: 43-48
43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Faithfulness simply means loyalty. It means steadfastness and allegiance. A faithful servant is one who is committed to his duties, without hypocrisy or eye service. Words such as dedicated, devotion, constant etc. further explain faithfulness. Again, a steward is a caretaker or care giver. He is a manager of resources; One who orders and keeps accounts of the activities in a great house. In the Bible, we read about such great stewards as Eliezer of Damascus. He was the steward of Abraham’s household (Gen.15:2). Joseph was the steward of Potifer’s house (Gen.39:4). Chuza the husband of Joana, a great supporter of Jesus’ ministry, was the steward of Herod’s palace (Lk.8:2). Talking about a faithful steward, I will like you to meditate on these three facts (i) A steward may be in charge of an estate, but he is not the real owner. (ii) A steward can be stripped of his power and influence, no matter how high he has risen, where he fails to remain loyal to his master. (iii) A steward has freedom, but he is accountable to his master. Our meditation scripture mentions only one requirement for stewardship: “Faithfulness”. In this regard, the faithful steward serves his master with reverence and love. He keeps accurate accounts and details of whatever is committed to him. A faithful steward does not usurp authority, nor exercise himself in matters that are higher than him. Faithfulness means doing your very best at all times, knowing that God, your Creator, knows your capacity.
TURNING POINT: A steward can be stripped of his power and influence, no matter how high he has risen, if he fails to remain loyal to his master.
PRAYER POINT: LORD, help me to serve You faithfully, in Jesus name.
