MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross, and follow me”. (Matt.16.24).
READ: PHIL.2:5-11
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Yesterday, we said that having the mind of Christ means living as Christ lived. Looking through the scriptures, we discovered that Jesus lived a life of self-denial. In fact, His incarnation explains it all. The immaculate Son of God, the second person of the Godhead, the Light of the world, took the form of mortal man to save sinful man. To think that Jesus had to go through all the process of natural growth in the womb of His mother Mary, completed the nine months period of pregnancy and passed through the birth canal of mortal woman to come into the world He created is so humbling. He didn’t automatically become an adult either; He had passed through the natural process of growth from childhood to teenage, then to youth and adulthood. Of course, this was under strict parental guidance and discipline.
No wonder He said to the disciples, he that must come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me (Lk.9:23). Selfishness in all its form and manifestation is a sign of Christlessness. Pride and arrogance are enemies of the cross of Christ and the advancement of the Kingdom of God. Jesus followed through, seeking and doing the Will of the Father even when it meant death. Having the mind of Christ is the willingness to give up all things that matters to you in pursuits of His Presence and Glory.
TURNING POINT: Selfishness in all its form and manifestation is a sign of Christlessness.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to pursue Your peace.
