MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of nations which Joshua left when he died:” (Judg.2:21)
READ: JUDGES 2:20-23
20 And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;
21 I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:
22 That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
23 Therefore the Lord left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
Our God is tender and compassionate but we must not take Him for granted. When Israel stepped into the Promised Land, the promise of God to subdue and destroy the Heathen so that His people will peacefully occupy the land and prosper in it was real. Israel toyed with this mandate, and had to face the consequences of their wrong choice.
They chose to follow their own way. They turned the people into slaves a servant instead of destroying them. It was not long these nations conquered them spiritually and introduce them to idolatry. They forsook the LORD and went after the god’s of the nations. Here, we see God turning away from His promise of conquering and dispossessing the nations of their land to settle His covenant people.
Beloved, our relationship with God is a covenant relationship. His blessings are bound with the cord of covenant requirements. If you loosen the covenant cord you will never access the blessings.
This is the simple reason why believers live and die like unbelievers today, until we maintain the boundaries between Egypt (the world) and Goshen (God’s presence) we suffer and die like the Egyptians.
Thenceforth, Israel could no longer win a total victory in their battles because the LORD never drove away any nation. When you constantly trample on divine privileges, a day will come when you will seek in tears but they will be far from you.
TURNING POINT: Until we maintain the boundaries between Egypt (the world) and Goshen (God’s presence) we suffer and die like the Egyptians.
PRAYER POINT: Father, please don’t withdraw Your covenant from me.
