MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say, rejoice.”(Phil.4:4)
READ: PS.51:12
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
In a world full of pain, confusion and mystery, rejoicing seems naturally impossible, but the word of God enjoins us to rejoice always. Always here implies at all time and in all circumstances. To the ordinary man this is impossible because man is naturally wired to respond to his environment. When pleasant things happen, joy and happiness follow and when the situation is unpleasant, sadness and gloom takes over. But for the spirit-controlled believers, joy is possible because we know that all things must work together for our good. (Rom.8:28).
Paul wrote “And not only so, but we glory in tribulation also: knowing that the tribulation worketh patience and patience, experience and experience: hope and hope is not ashamed; because the love of God is shed aboard in our heart by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us”. This is the reason for our joy.
No matter what happens, God is still in perfect control. This is the difference between the believers and unbelievers. In their time of crises and pain, they lose control and direction because they do not have a life guard and an anchor for their soul. Rejoicing in the Lord means rejoicing in the confidence that all is well even when circumstances and physical evidence seems contrary. This joy is based on the understanding that in God and with Him, it must end in praise. This joy was the strength of the martyrs. In the face of gruesome death, they smiled and sang praises to God, knowing that the end of every dark tunnel has a glorious new beginning.
TURNING POINT: This joy is based on the understanding that in God and with Him it must end in praise.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to live in joy always.
