MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Moreover, I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours therefore, and the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.” (Jer. 20:5)
READ: JERE.20:1-6
Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. 2 Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD. 3 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib. 4 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword. 5 Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon. 6 And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.
The only way to benefit from the truth is to accept it and work in it. Those who disobeyed the truth will face the penalty of disobedience. During the earthly ministry of Jesus, we noticed that people who benefited mostly from His ministry were those who believed in Him, following His instruction even though it looks irrational. When He spat on the ground and rob the eyes of the blind man and ask him to go and wash at the pool of Siloam, he simply obeyed. The result was that he came back seeing (Jn.9:6-7). You cannot fight the truth and still be a beneficiary of the truth. The Jews of Jeremiah’s days resisted the truth of God’s Word spoken by prophet Jeremiah.
They criticized, persecuted and even plotted his death at some point (Jer.11:18-21, 18:18). This lengthened the days of their sorrows, God is the defender of the truth, He honours the truth because truth represents Him. The woman of Canaan received bitter truth that it was not time for her daughter to receive healing. Rather than argue or get angry, she embraced the truth in humility then her change came (Matt.15:22-28). Arguing with the truth or resisting it will not postpone or terminate your day of doom. At the appointed time, the God of Truth will enforce the truth and bring all the enemies of the truth to their knees. By their disobedience Israel plunged their land and unborn generations into seventy years of captivity because truth must always have the last laugh.
TURNING POINT: God is the defender of the truth; He honours the truth because truth represents Him.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to bow to the truth whenever and wherever it is spoken
