MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him, but his hoar head bring thou down to grave with blood”. (1Kgs.2:9)
READ: 1 KINGS 2:8-12
8 And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword. 9 Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him; but his hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood. 10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. 11 And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem. 12 Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.
The next on the line on this day of reckoning was Shimiel the Benjamite of Bahurim. The full story of this man is found in (2 Sam.16:5-8). He cursed king David on the day of his distress. When David was running for his dear life, escaping from Absalom’s treason, Shimiel met him on the way cursing and accusing him wrongly. Shimiel claimed that David was suffering for shedding the blood of the household of Saul. He even threw stones on David and his company. The warriors wanted to deal with him but David restrained them. After the death of Absalom, when David regained the kingdom, Shimiel came back with many apologies.
David forgave him then, but today we see that no one can raise his hand or his voice against the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless (1kgs.2:8-9). For the rest of the days of David, this man may have thought that he had escaped, not knowing that Judgment was still waiting for him. Our God is merciful and kind, but when certain spiritual barriers are broken, the consequences are grave and sometimes generational. David was a man of integrity, having given Shimiel his word; he could not raise his hands against him even though he deserved to die. No matter the circumstances, never raise your voice against a child of God. Even if you think that they are suffering for their sins, do not sit on the seat of judgment because you may incur God’s wrath.
TURNING POINT: No matter the circumstances, never raise your voice against a child of God.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, may I never be remembered for any evil deed in Jesus name.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: IS.39,40; PHIL.4
