MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Watch therefore for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” (Matt.24:42)
READ: MATT.24:36:44
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Many years ago, I watched a play-let captioned the bride. In this drama a young man was espoused to the beautiful lady. The arrangement was done and the young man decided to take a journey to a far country to make better preparation for him and his dear wife so that they wouldn’t have to suffer any lack after wedding.
On that fateful day of his departure, he gave an engagement ring and white robe to his bride to be. They pledged their love for each other promising to remain faithful until that blessed day of their coming together. The young man took off and the beautiful girl was happy that a great future awaited her. She boasted to her friends how beautiful her future was and they all envied her.
Very soon days turned to weeks, then, months and years then she became weary. Her friends no longer envied but they pitied her because many of them were getting married and giving birth to their own children.
However, her husband friend was always coming around to comfort her and encouraged her, reminding her of his friend’s promise and integrity of character, this continued until this young girl decided to look elsewhere. On that fateful day, she decided to follow her friends to a party and at least breathe the air of freedom. In the party she got drunk, her expensive engagement ring was stolen and her beautiful white rope was soiled.
As she staggered home, she saw her husband at the door standing with his friends, but she was ashamed to walk closer because she was sticking and battered. Her shame turned to wailing as her husband to be walked away in tears of disappointment. Beloved, our blessed hope is sure but the time is uncertain. Only those who endured to the end shall be saved.
TURNING POINT: Beloved, our blessed hope is sure but the time is uncertain. Only those who endured to the end shall be saved.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to wait faithfully to the end.
