MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide, keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy Bosom “(Micah. 7:5)
READ: 2TIM.2:19-22
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonor. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Reading through the scriptures and from personal experience, I have discovered that enemies within or what we may call household enemies are the most difficult to deal with. It was an elder called Ahitophel, who was David’s greatest adviser that decamped to Absolom’s camp and gave him a most strategic counsel that could have ruined David. In fact, he promised to go into the battle and kill David by himself (2 Sam.17:1-2).
Household enemies are difficult to deal with because, in the first place you never see them as enemies; they appear as trusted friends. Three strategies are revealed in our meditation scripture to guide you against falling victim to enemy within. (1) Don’t trust a friend carelessly: are we supposed to be suspicious and never trust? No!! The scripture is only encouraging us to be careful in our relationships. Jesus was so compassionate and loving yet, He was spiritually alert to discern when Peter switched over from speaking for God to speaking for Satan (Matt.16:22-23). (2) put not confidence in a guide. A guide is supposed to be the one leading you and providing direction, yet you must be careful and try to study the map yourself. (3) Keep the doors of your mouth shut. Don’t say it all no matter who you are with. Be diplomatic in your discussions. Reserving some of the details of that information may be your protection. Every secret leaked to a household enemy through looseness of tongue is a potential dagger that may piece your heart in future.
TURNING POINT: Every secret leaked to a household enemy through looseness of tongue is a potential dagger that may piece your heart in future.
PRAYER POINT: Dear Lord, deliver my soul from all the activities of household enemies.
