MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1Jn.1:9)
READ: 1 JOHN 1: 1-9
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I read the story of a little boy who mistakenly killed his mother’s fowl. Though it was not intentional, his elder sister took advantage of his mistake and began to torture him. John (not real name) was hunting lizards at the backyard of their house. As he released a shot from his sling it landed on the head of his mother’s fowl and it died immediately. Trying to escape from the scene, his elder sister called his name and told him not to worry that she will cover his tracks on the grounds that he would obey her always. John accepted this condition and felt relieved. Later that day, it was time to do the dishes and the work was shifted to John. This was the beginning of sorrow for little John as all the house chores were gradually transferred to him. Sometimes, even part of his meals were taken away and he went hungry. John grew lean and became miserable as his agony increased on a daily basis. One day he made up his mind to confess his mistake to his mother. The mother listened quietly as he made his confession in tears. To his amazement she said to him, I saw you when you killed the fowl and hid its body under a stone. John asked “but Mum, why didn’t you say anything all the while, you allowed me to go through all this torture”, his mother replied, “I wanted you to realize your mistake and confess them by yourself”.
Satan is a task master, he will not let you go until you willingly reconcile with God through genuine repentance and conversion. Only God has the power to break his power of condemnation and guilt over your life. Confession of sins from a heart of repentance is the key to total restoration and joy.
