Ahead of the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protests scheduled for Monday in Abuja, the United States Embassy has issued a security alert to its citizens residing or traveling within the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement released on its official website on Friday, the Embassy warned that the demonstrations could result in disruptions and possible violence. It urged U.S. citizens to avoid protest areas and to restrict non-essential movement around the city during the period.
The alert comes as activists and supporters of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, prepare to stage nationwide demonstrations demanding his release.
