Following plans by Cameroon to open its Lagdo dam, the National Emergency Management Agency in Rivers State has called on Local Government Councils to take proactive measures to reduce the impact of the predicted flooding in their areas.
Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Godwin Tepikor made the call in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Tepikor called on government councils to build drainage and IDP camps for areas that may be affected by the flood.
According to him, agency is working with critical stakeholders to mitigate the impact of the flood.
He also advised residents not to dump refuse in drainages and canals.
