No fewer than 232 people have lost their lives, while 121,224 others have been displaced by devastating floods that ravaged several states across Nigeria as of September 20, according to figures from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
According to the 2025 flood dashboard, at least 339,658 persons have suffered various forms of losses, with 681 sustaining injuries and 115 reported missing nationwide.
Niger State recorded the highest number of casualties with 163 deaths, followed by Adamawa with 59. Taraba recorded five fatalities, Yobe two, while Borno, Gombe, and Jigawa had one each.
Several states were severely impacted. In Imo, 29,242 people were affected, with 15,607 displaced, 81 injured, and hundreds of homes and farmlands destroyed. Taraba reported 26,722 affected, 3,080 displaced, 88 injured, and five deaths. Rivers State recorded 22,345 affected and 9,645 displaced; Delta had 14,057 affected and 3,325 displaced; Abia saw 11,907 affected, 4,896 displaced, and 21 injured; while Edo reported 10,608 affected and 2,439 displaced.
