The executive Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Hope Ikiriko has called on the federal government to fulfill its promise with the government of Cameroun by building Dams to prevent flooding.
Ikiriko who made the call in a statement on Tuesday said the LGA has been overtaken by flood and that people are suffering.
He noted that they cannot supply everything people need but, are doing their best to salvage the situation by rescuing those trapped in various communities, providing food and responding to SOS calls among others.
He commended the Rivers State government for its timely intervention in the provision of relief materials.
The council boss revealed that three persons drowned yesterday but, one was rescued alive, adding that one other person was bitten by snake and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
He also said people are been taken to IDP Camps in Ahoada East as theirs have been submerged.
Ahaoda West Local Government Council is one of the few councils in the state heavily affected by the flood, as so many communities have been sacked.
