PRESS STATEMENT
Rainbow Watch and Development Centre, a non-governmental organization focused on promoting sustainable development and advocating for the rights of vulnerable communities, is deeply concerned about the impending flood as the Cameronians authorities have notified the Nigerian government of their intention to release water from Lagdo Dam.
As the rainy season increases, we call on the Rivers State Government to take proactive steps to alleviate the plights of people that will be affected in their communities. This requires a multi-faceted approach, including creating awareness about the potential dangers of the flood, establishing IDP camps, and providing adequate preparation for disaster management.
We urge government officials to take action to prevent the loss of lives, displacement of communities, and destruction of properties that often result from flooding. It is our responsibility to protect and promote the well-being of all citizens, including those who are particularly vulnerable to the effects of natural disasters.
Rainbow Watch and Development Centre is ready to collaborate with the government, other NGOs, and well-meaning individuals to ensure that necessary measures are taken to alleviate the impact of the flood. We urge the government to prioritize the safety and security of citizens and act with urgency and sensitivity in addressing this situation.
We extend our sympathies to those who have been affected by previous floods and call for greater attention and commitment to fulfill our collective responsibilities towards preventing and mitigating disasters.
