Five persons were crushed to death on Friday night when a Dangote Cement truck collided with a tricycle at the Alapoka axis of the Papalanto–Ilaro Road in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
According to Akinbiyi, the accident occurred around 8:25 p.m. when the truck, lost its brakes and rammed into an unregistered tricycle conveying five passengers. All occupants of the tricycle reportedly died on the spot.
He explained that eyewitnesses recounted how the truck driver, unaware of the collision, dragged the tricycle until its tyre crushed both the vehicle and its passengers.
TRACE officials, along with other emergency responders, were said to have arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.
