Buildings and properties of residents of Egede, Okwelle Waterfront in Diobu, Port Harcourt, have today been gutted by fire.
During a conversation with our correspondent, Stanley Uhegbu, a resident in the area alleged that the fire was triggered by a spark from a generator. Other explosive materials including fuel and kerosene may have also led to further explosions.
Residents of the area battled the inferno for hours, pulling down nearby buildings to avoid further spread. This was before the arrival of officials of the State fire service.
Okwelle Waterfront is one of the alleged epicenters of “Kpo fire” in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
