One Mr John Chika Ihunwo, the Supervisor of a guest house that was razed by fire few days ago at the Rumuola axis of Port Harcourt, has said that a cash sum of over three million naira was lost in the inferno.
Chika, in a statement shortly after the incident said goods worth millions of naira were also burnt.
He stated that the fire started from the lobby, of the guest house to other rooms, while guests were watching a football game.
“It was serious. Just about 10.30 PM on Saturday, people were watching football match, the hotel was in full swing and suddenly people started shouting fire and before you know it the fire that started behind the house spread to everywhere,” he said.
“Look at the place now, all the plasma television sets, fridges, deep freezers, all got burnt. The physical cash that was burnt is over N3 million, plus other properties. Right now, one person who developed BP due to shock occasioned by the loss is in the hospital,” he added.
He berated officials of the State Fire Service for not doing enough to put out the fire when they arrived.
