The Federal Government says members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will not be paid the backlog of salaries withheld within the period on strike.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who disclosed this during the weekly Ministerial briefing Today, said it is penalty for their actions.
According to him, not paying the lecturers’ backlog of salaries will deter others who may want to go on strike in future.
He also said the strike by ASUU came despite the trillions of naira expended on education by the present administration.
Adamu, debunked claims that he got a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the ASUU strike in two weeks.
He stated that the President instead told him to resolve the issues within the shortest possible time.
