The Federal Government has unveiled plans to distribute five million Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders to households across the country by the year 2030, as part of its nationwide push for cleaner and safer cooking alternatives.
Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, disclosed this during the launch of the North West phase of the Grassroots LPG Penetration Programme in Sokoto on Monday.
Ekpo said the initiative aims to convert one million households annually to LPG usage, drastically reducing dependence on firewood and other traditional cooking fuels.
“With President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support, we’re committed to transitioning five million Nigerian households to cleaner, more sustainable cooking methods by 2030,” the minister stated.
He emphasized that the programme goes beyond just gas distribution, adding that it would contribute to improved public health, job creation, and environmental preservation.
