The Federal Government has announced plans to scale up its direct cash transfer programme to include more poor and vulnerable Nigerians.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference and Book Launch held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Edun revealed that the initiative currently benefits over 15 million households across the country. He said while significant progress had been made in stabilising inflation and the exchange rate, the government remains focused on ensuring that the ongoing economic reforms translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
“There is an attempt to ensure that the pains of reform are immediately alleviated. That’s why there is a transparent, accountable, and robust system of providing direct payments to 15 million households,” Edun stated.
He added that the cash transfer programme is being implemented through a transparent and accountable framework supported by a digital verification system to ensure that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
