The Federal Government has said it has met all the demands made by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and sees no reason for the union to embark on another strike.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television, where he appealed to university lecturers to return to the classrooms.
According to Alausa, the government has “addressed every request” presented by ASUU, contrary to claims that it has been slow or unwilling to meet the union’s demands.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to maintaining fair relations with labour unions, adding that the administration has taken significant steps to improve funding for tertiary education across the country.
The minister further revealed that the government’s negotiating committee met with ASUU last Friday to review the union’s proposals regarding conditions of service and members’ welfare. He said the committee agreed to ASUU’s proposals and awaited a counteroffer from the union but had yet to receive any response.
Alausa therefore urged the union to prioritise the academic future of Nigerian students by shelving plans for strike action and returning to work.
