The Federal Government has rejected recent comments by former United States President, Donald J. Trump, alleging mass killings of Christians in Nigeria and urging the U.S. to designate the country as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, in a statement said the claims “do not reflect the situation on the ground,” stressing that Nigerians of all religions have historically coexisted peacefully.
The statement affirmed that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria remains firmly committed to safeguarding human rights, advancing interfaith harmony, and combating terrorism across the country.
“While Nigeria appreciates global concern for human rights and religious freedom, these claims do not reflect realities,” the ministry stated.
It added that the Federal Government will continue to maintain constructive diplomatic engagement with the United States to enhance mutual understanding of regional security issues and Nigeria’s ongoing peacebuilding efforts.
