Rivers State has been listed as one of the 31 states to be affected by flood beginning from this month.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, disclosed this at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja.
According to him governors have been alerted as precautionary measures should be taken to avert possible disasters from such occurrences.
The affected states are Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Kebbi.
Others are Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba and Yobe.
Utsev also revealed that increased rainfall could worsen the ongoing cholera outbreak across the country.
