The Federal Government has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering fully funded postgraduate opportunities to qualified Nigerians.
The Presidency confirmed on Monday that the programme provides sponsorship for Master’s and Doctoral degrees in selected institutions across the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Malaysia.
Under the scheme, successful candidates will have their tuition fees, return air tickets, accommodation, living expenses and health insurance fully covered.
The initiative is designed to strengthen local expertise in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry by exposing beneficiaries to advanced training, cutting-edge research and global best practices.
For PhD scholars studying in the United Kingdom, the PTDF will adopt a split-site model, allowing candidates to conduct part of their research at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna, in collaboration with partner universities such as the University of Strathclyde and Robert Gordon University.
Eligibility for the scholarship is strictly based on merit. Applicants for the MSc programme must possess at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) degree, a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and required O’Level credits. PhD applicants are also required to submit a five-page research proposal outlining their methodology and relevance to the energy sector.
In addition, all applicants must have a valid and verified National Identity Number (NIN) to qualify for consideration.
Applications are to be submitted online via the official PTDF portal at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng, with the deadline set for February 27, 2026.
The PTDF cautioned that submission of false information or multiple applications will result in automatic disqualification.
