The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has dismissed as fake a graphic circulating on social media alleging that HIV prevalence in Port Harcourt has risen to 86 percent.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry said the claim is entirely false, fabricated, and not based on any official health data.
According to the ministry, no state in Nigeria has an HIV prevalence rate close to the figure quoted in the viral post. It added that the wording, statistics, and format of the graphic do not align with any authorised communication issued by the ministry.
The ministry advised Nigerians to rely on verified HIV data from the National AIDS and STIs Control Programme (NASCP), the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), and official publications of the ministry.
It urged the public to disregard the post, refrain from sharing unverified health information, and depend solely on credible government channels for accurate health updates.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to providing Nigerians with reliable, evidence-based information to safeguard public health.
