The Federal Government has confirmed intensified security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, resulting in precision airstrikes against terrorist targets in the North-West region of the country.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, in a statement said Nigerian authorities are working closely with international partners, including the United States, to address the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.
According to the ministry, the collaboration is based on intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support, all conducted in accordance with international law, mutual respect for national sovereignty, and bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening regional and global security.
The government emphasised that all counter-terrorism operations are guided by the need to protect civilian lives, preserve national unity, and uphold the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity. It stressed that terrorist violence targeting Christians, Muslims, or any other group is unacceptable and poses a threat to both Nigeria’s values and international peace.
The statement further noted that the Federal Government will continue working through established diplomatic and security channels to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats, while also strengthening Nigeria’s security institutions and intelligence capabilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the public that it would maintain engagement with relevant partners and provide updates through official channels.
