The Federal Government has announced that there will be no military parade to mark Nigeria’s 2025 Democracy Day celebrations scheduled for Thursday, June 12.
According to a statement released by the Inter-Ministerial Committee, this year’s commemoration will instead feature a nationwide broadcast by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at 7:00 a.m.
The president is also expected to address a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12 noon, where discussions will focus on Nigeria’s democratic journey and current national issues. During the session, Tinubu will reiterate his appeal for national unity and continued reform.
The day’s activities will conclude with a public lecture at 4:00 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. Themed “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms,” the lecture will bring together political leaders, government officials, civil society representatives, and other key stakeholders.
