The Federal Government has announced an increase in the cost of obtaining driver’s licences and number plates, with the new rates set to take effect from June 8, 2025.
The revision, approved by the Joint Tax Board (JTB), follows a review of production costs and the introduction of enhanced security features aimed at improving safety and curbing fraud.
According to the JTB, the upgraded security measures have significantly increased production expenses, necessitating the adjustment in pricing.
The board oversees tax and licensing matters across Nigeria and said the new pricing structure reflects the need to align with current economic realities while strengthening the integrity of vehicle identification and licensing systems.
