The family of the late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has accepted his Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, making him the first African artiste to be honoured with the prestigious recognition.
The Recording Academy conferred the award—one of its highest honours—on the iconic musician during the Special Merit Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Fela’s enduring legacy was celebrated by his children, Femi, Yeni and Kunle Kuti, who received the award on his behalf at the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yeni Kuti, visibly emotional, expressed the family’s appreciation to the Recording Academy for recognising her father’s global impact and lasting contribution to music
