The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to popular singer Darlington Achakpo, known as Speed Darlington, following his arraignment on charges of alleged cybercrime.
Presiding over the case, Justice Ekerete Akpan approved a bail of N20 million with one surety. The court stipulated that the surety must be a Level 10 civil servant residing in Abuja and must submit an affidavit of means. The surety’s address will be verified by the court registrar and must either be a staff member of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) or a federal government employee.
Additionally, the surety is required to deposit their appointment and last promotion letters, which will be verified by the court’s deputy chief registrar. Both Speed Darlington and the surety must also submit two recent passport-sized photographs to the court registrar.
As part of the bail conditions, Speed Darlington was ordered to surrender his international passport. Until the bail terms are fully met, he will remain in custody at Kuje Correctional Centre.
The singer, who pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge, is set to face trial on March 18. His lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, had moved the bail application.
