The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is engaging in negotiations with terrorists.
The party’s spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi made the claim on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He argued that the manner in which abducted persons were recently rescued, as well as the responses of top government officials, suggest that the government may be dealing directly with bandits.
The ADC spokesperson criticised a statement credited to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), who reportedly said security operatives could not arrest the bandits involved because they had already surrendered. He also condemned remarks by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who stated that no arrests were made because the bandits released the abducted victims after being asked to do so.
Reacting to the closure of schools in some parts of the country due to insecurity, he further stated that terrorists are now “reshaping the future of Nigerian children,” adding that the situation reflects the government’s failure to protect citizens.
The ADC described these developments as unacceptable and insisted that they point to deeper concerns about how the government is handling national security.
