The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday approved a total of N1.81 trillion for the rescoping of existing highway contracts and the execution of new road projects across the country.
The approval includes N760.4 billion for naira-denominated projects and a separate $651.7 million (approximately N1.05 trillion) facility earmarked for the 7th Axial Road connecting the Lekki Deep-Sea Port to Sagamu-Ore.
Also ratified was the first phase of the Aba–Ikot Ekpene Road at a cost of N30.23 billion, alongside nine other corridors spread across 12 states.
Minister of Works Dave Umahi disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents after the 25th FEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Umahi revealed that part of the approval involves a revision of the Akure-Ado Ekiti dualisation project, now reduced to 15km from the original 18.4km stretch, to be executed at a cost of N19.41 billion.
He further noted that similar adjustments have been made on the Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna corridor, now trimmed to 82.4km including six bridges, without exceeding the initial N105 billion budget.
