The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked online reports alleging an assassination attempt on Lt. A.M. Yerima, the Nigerian Navy officer who recently clashed with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed land matter.
Social media reports had claimed that on Sunday, November 16, Yerima was trailed by unidentified men dressed in black and riding in two unmarked Hilux vans from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way. The accounts further alleged that the officer managed to evade the supposed attackers through a “strategic maneuver,” and that security operatives were already investigating the incident.
In a statement on Monday, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, dismissed the claims as completely false, stating that no such incident was reported or recorded anywhere in the territory.
She urged the public to disregard what she described as misleading information designed to cause unnecessary tension.
“For the safety of all residents, the Command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police division,” Adeh said. She also provided the Command’s emergency contacts—08032003913 and 08068587311—for prompt reporting and response.
