A ghastly motor accident involving a 14-seater passenger bus and a diesel tanker truck has claimed the lives of over twelve persons along the Tombia-Ammassoma road in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
According to eyewitnesses the incident occurred yesterday at about 8:00pm. Some persons have suggested that the incident may have occurred due to over speeding on the part of the diesel truck, which collided with the bus and exploded.
The Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat who confirmed the incident to journalists, said the scene of the inferno was “gory and horrible,”
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corp who equally confirmed the incident said, the passengers were burnt beyond recognition, “they were unrecognisable and couldn’t immediately be identified, “when we arrived at the scene at about 10pm there was nothing we could do” one of them stated.
Reports has it that eight persons were reportedly burnt to ashes on the spot following an explosion that followed the accident, while four others later died on arrival at the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri.
