A family in Rivers State is seeking justice after a young woman was allegedly raped and strangled to death in her room in Obigbo, Port Harcourt.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night, with residents of the compound said to have fled following the attack. The case is currently being handled by the Obigbo Police Division, while the victim’s remains have been deposited in a morgue.
According to a public appeal made by a family associate, identified as @torty_mercy on social media, the deceased, simply identified as Ugochi, left behind orphaned siblings who have no one to stand up for them. The family also expressed concerns about sharing images of the victim due to the traumatic nature of the incident and the potential emotional impact on her younger sisters.
“We are ready to work with the police to unravel the killer or killers,” the post read, as she called on security agencies and the public to assist in ensuring those behind the crime are brought to justice.
Describing the situation as “unending tears and agony,” the lady appealed for support in amplifying their voices, urging members of the public to help tag relevant authorities, including the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer.
The family and concerned citizens are hoping that increased public attention will speed up the investigation and ensure accountability for the heinous crime.
